Finding the Light

by Maria Lourdes de Vera and Kyle Anderson

Eclipse - Finding the Light

Eclipse is a personal account of recovering from a traumatic brain injury. It presents a captivating narrative of the intricate journey following a snowboarding accident that resulted in a devastating, near-death injury. It explores the acceptance of significant changes after recovery and the solitary search for meaning through travel.

Moving forward in life requires the courage to confront past experiences and bring closure to failed relationships and unresolved circumstances. Only by doing so can one begin to piece life back together—especially when dreams and ambitions have taken a dramatic turn. Each chapter serves as a lens, illuminating different facets of this transformative journey: from the shattering moment of injury and the coma, to the darkest days of despair and depression, and finally, to the gradual emergence of healing.

Rehabilitation brings with it a sense of hope, yet also reveals a daunting reality—the immense challenges and demands of recovery. Through deeply personal experiences and profound insights, the narrative captures not only the physical toll but also the emotional, mental, and spiritual upheaval that accompanies such a life-altering event.

In the face of challenging medical diagnoses and a refusal to surrender to disability, solace is found in unconventional approaches pursued in a desperate hope to restore lost skills.

This is a story of monumental transformation—a rebirth amid difficulty, uncertainty, and loss. Guided by resilience, self-discovery, and an unwavering pursuit of healing, the narrative unfolds as a testament to human strength and adaptability, celebrating the triumph of light over darkness.

Through the eclipses of the mind, the reader witnesses the transition from injury to growth, from heartbreak to healing, and from the fragments of a shattered past to the beauty of a reimagined future. This is not merely a story of survival, but of renewal—a journey of finding the light in life’s darkest moments. Finding brilliance and purpose in the wake of life’s most challenging eclipses.
